Rutland Photography Show
The aim of this photo contest is to give residents of Rutland an opportunity to appreciate and to photograph what is special in and around Rutland. This project is a coordinated effort with Dismas House of Rutland and from the collected images a calendar will be produced, the proceeds of which will benefit Dismas House. All interested members of the community are invited to vote on their favorite photographs the winners of which will be included in the 2009 calendar. Voting takes place at the Chaffee Art Center on August 8 from 5 until 8 pm, as well as August 9 and 10 during regular gallery hours. This project provided a unique opportunity to create a photo exchange program with Rutland's sister city in Japan, Hanamaki City (once Ishadoriya). Hanamaki City has provided over 70 photographs taken by 52 different artists showing to Rutland what its citizens believe to be special in and around their city as well. Many of the gifts given to Rutland over the years by Hanamaki City will also be on display. Also exhibiting in the galleries will be the new works of Chaffee member artists as well as Puzzle Pieces from the Art Fits program taking place throughout Vermont. Please join us at the Chaffee for the opening reception on Friday, August 8, 2008, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public. This exhibition continues through Saturday, September 6, 2008. The Chaffee's hours are 10 am to 5 pm Tuesday - Saturday (closed on Monday), and 12 - 4 pm on Sunday. For more information please call the Chaffee Art Center at 802-775-0356, or visit us online at http://www.chaffeeartcenter.org. |
