About Lake Bomoseen

Lake Bomoseen is the largest body of water contained solely within the confines of the state of Vermont.  The lake is approximately nine miles long and one mile wide.  Lake Bomoseen is considered to be the most prominent lake within the area known as the Lakes Region.  It is divided into four different areas: the north end, the main lake itself, the southern end, and the channel.  There are several small streams and tributaries that flow into Lake Bomoseen.  Glenn Lake flows into Bomoseen as well.  Lake Bomoseen is a shallow lake, said to be approximately 65 feet deep at most.

The Lakes Region includes other nearby bodies such as Lake St. Catherine, Lake Hortonia, Beebe Pond, and Glenn Lake.  These lakes offer a variety of activities including fishing, hunting, hiking, boating, camping, and more.  All of these lakes are within a 15 minute drive from Castleton.  Prospect Bay Country Club offers 18 challenging holes of golf.  Hubbardton Battlefield is also only a few minutes away.

Bomoseen State Park is located within the heart of the slate producing Taconic Mountains on the shores of Vermont's largest internal lake state.  Part of the 3,500+ acre park was a gift to the state for "recreational purposes and as a refuge and sanctuary for all kinds of wildlife."  The campground contains 66 campsites including 10 lean-tos.  The sites are both wooded and grassy open areas.  Some are located along the lakeshore.

Lake Bomoseen Campground & Marine is located in Bomoseen.  The campground spans 33 wooded acres that offer beautiful, shaded, and spacious tent and trailer sites complete with picnic tables and fireplaces.  Boaters are welcomed and can use the two docks available. The area's lakes and streams provide fantastic fishing opportunities for rainbow, brown, brook, and lake trout, bass, pike, pickerel, walleye, perch, bluegill and bullhead.
