For one of our clients, we designed and programmed a complex Order Entry system to meet several immediate needs. The first was the Y2K issue - they had an older Paradox system which was far from Y2K compliant. Another issue was record volume - Paradox only allows a certain number of records to be stored in a system. |

Our client had enough data stored in the old
Paradox system where they would need to purge older records before
entering a new record. They also needed to upgrade into a
Windows platform. These limitations rendered their application
obsolete, so they called Button Systems to help! The main focus of development for this system was ease-of-use. The Order Entry system used some of the basic concepts from the Paradox system, but took it many steps further. Each area of their program, such as clients, parts, machines, service reps, and orders, is stored in relational databases. This makes data entry easier, data browsing faster, and record keeping more efficient. One of the key features in developing this new system was the integration of SQL (Structured Query Language) processing. This data access method allows the system user to search by almost any possible item within the system. The speed at which it accesses the data is amazing! SQL allows an operator to check ALL of the system databases and find what they're looking for in a matter of seconds. Finally, the Order Entry system allows the operator to report their data by a variety of parameters. These reports also utilize the power and flexibility of SQL to make the speed of entry and retrieval something that was impossible with Paradox. |
